Notification

Under the Right to Information Act, No. 12 of 2016, information related to the Sri Lanka Railways can be applied for using the RTI 01 application form. (Submission of this application form is not mandatory)

  1. Submit a written application using the RTI 01 form, or a letter, or an oral request to the Information Officer and obtain an acknowledgment of receipt.
  2. You will be informed as soon as possible (within a maximum period of 14 days) regarding whether the information relevant to your request can be provided.
  3. If it is decided to provide the information you requested, and if a fee determined by the Commission is payable, you will be notified of it.
  4. If payment is required to obtain the information, upon payment of the fee accordingly, or if no fee is payable, the information will be provided to you free of charge within 14 days.
  5. If it is difficult to provide the information within 14 days after payment of the fee, the Information Officer will provide the information you requested within an additional period not exceeding 21 days, stating the reasons for the extension.
  6. If the request for information is related to a citizen's life and personal liberty, a response to the request will be made within 48 hours of receiving the request.
  7. If you are dissatisfied regarding a request made to obtain information, on the following grounds:
  • Refusal to accept a request made for information.
  • Refusal to grant access to any information on the grounds that it is exempted under Section 05 of the Act.
  • Non-compliance with the specific time limits stipulated by the Act.
  • Provision of incomplete, misleading, or false information.
  • Charging excessive fees.
  • Refusal by the Information Officer to provide information in the format requested.
  • The citizen requesting the information has reasonable grounds to believe that the information has been altered, destroyed, or misplaced to prevent access to such information.

If you are dissatisfied for the above reasons, you may submit an appeal to the designated officer named below within 14 days.

There are two methods to pay the fees mentioned above related to the information you request;

  • In cash, directly to the Information Officer
  • Via a bank draft payable to the Accounts Officer of the Public Authority

Whichever method the payment is made, the Information Officer will issue a receipt.
